Freebie for you! Words Dance : a hot-blooded storybook of the mind's eye

Words Dance
a hot-blooded storybook of the mind's eye

Some of you may have noticed, maybe not, I was pretty quiet here last week. I was shoulder-deep in a project that I am so wholly & fully passionate about. If you hop on over to the site you can read a little about why it was so important to me to dive deep into the project & not really come up for air until it was finished.

WordsDance.com is a website that I've had since 2003. If you check out the About page, you can read a little about its history.

Along with the website relaunch there is also a FREE magazine that you can pick up, brimming with poetry, art & love!

I plan on releasing an issue every month starting in November & I'm taking submissions for poetry, photography & art! Words Dance is a little edgier than KOM, it's sensual, spicy & sassy at times. Nonetheless, I'm looking for poetry & art that moves me on any level. You can look over the submission guidelines if you are interested, I would love for you to be part of it!

The free issue houses select pieces from Words Dance when it was a print issue. Beautiful, moving poetry from some really awesome people & poets in my life. I am blessed to know them. You'll have to sign up to the Words Dance mailing list & jump through a few email hoops to receive it but it's so worth it, I'm so proud of the way the issue came together!

Thank you for being here & for your support, much love & gratitude,

Seeds of Change with Aleathia Drehmer

A hundred times a day I remind myself that my inner and outer lives are based on the labors of other people, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure that I have received, and am still receiving.

Albert Einstein

In recent months my ex-husband and I have started to be friends again after 3 years of bitterness and anger from our separation. We had spent a good 16 years together traveling the country, sharing, laughing, fighting and loving each other, but somewhere along the road that was not enough for either of us to keep growing. And though we both needed the split, we were somehow angry about it. It felt like the biggest failure of our lives and through it we never communicated which left a mountain of tension between us which ultimately slide down the other side of the slope towards our daughter.

We really had to dig deep and find kindness to be able to see that after all that we had been through we were still really great people and great friends. It took the thought of continually breaking our daughter’s heart with our combined silences and awkward exchanges to make us stand up and take notice. We were not only hurting her, but we were hurting each other. We had lost the definition of kindness in the woods somewhere between my heart and his.

To commemorate our discovery we created a family night at my house where all three of us sit down to a meal, laugh, play a game or play Frisbee, or just watch a movie. We enjoy each other’s company in a true and whole way. Our daughter’s attitude about life has begun to open like a flower. Her love is expanding instead of contracting as it was before and we see her smile reaching out to people and her laughter reminding us of the glory of life; it reminds us of why we became friends in the first place nearly 20 years ago.

The other day my ex was in a bind with his new girlfriend. He was feeling like it was over and that somehow he had stopped trusting in her. I saw him moving through this negative spiral in which it is very hard for him to get out of. I learned that in all our years together. It was part of what separated us in the first place. I had an opportunity at that moment to do two things: I could tell him he was right and that it was over, or I could find a kind way to help him express his feelings so he could be heard. I reminded him that the seed in his head about his relationship was dragging the past behind it and that he had forgotten one important thing….he forgot to talk to his girlfriend about his concerns and that he had to do it in a way that wasn’t accusatory, but gentle and vulnerable and open.

He did this and their love is still intact. His heart is bigger and his trust in love restored. It seems a strange place to be, giving love advice to the man that I spent most of my life with, but in the end I have only ever wanted his happiness to return. It felt good to be an honest and caring woman. It felt good to know that loving-kindness isn’t fleeting and that I have shed the shells of anger and bitterness in order to make his life better. This is what friends do, they love and forgive and pay forward the kindness that comes to them in all the small ways they can.

Aleathia Drehmer edits Durable Goods, In Between Altered States and poetry at Full of Crow. She is a member of the Be Gentle, Be Love group and is slowly but surely working through a lifetime of damage and turning it into kindness. She has a collection of poetry from Propaganda Press called You Find Me Everywhere. Aleathia’s blog about discovering the great things in life can be found at laspectatrice.blogspot.com.

love alone can awaken what is divine within you

The heart is the inner face of your life. The human journey strives to make this inner face beautiful. It is here that love gathers within you. Love is absolutely vital for a human life. For love alone can awaken what is divine within you. In love, you grow and come home to your self. When you learn to love and let yourself be loved, you come home to the hearth of your own spirit. You are warm and sheltered.

You are love & joy & freedom

You are joy, looking for a way to express. It’s not just that your purpose is joy, it is that you are joy. You are love and joy and freedom and clarity expressing. Energy — frolicking and eager — that’s who you are. And so, if you’re always reaching for alignment with that, you’re always on your path, and your path will take you into all kinds of places. We will not deny that you will not discover miracles and create benefits and be involved in creation, and that you will not uplift humanity…we will not say that you will not find satisfaction in so many things that you create, but we can’t get away from the acknowledgment that you are Pure Positive Energy that translates into the human emotion of joy.

Spin Your Story : How to deal with setbacks even if you fail 1,000 times

Spin Your Story guest post by Sophie Gold.

How to deal with setbacks even if you fail 1,000 times

Elbert Hubbard said "There is no failure except in no longer trying."

I am one of those people that say, try, try and try again because I know that eventually it will work.

Thomas Edison said “I have not failed; I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” If you were trying to invent the light bulb, would you have quit after the 100th or 1,000th time?

There will always be obstacles on the path to success. They will sometimes be some of the most horrible, gut-wrenching times of your life, but I really feel that it won’t kill you but make you stronger and help you to enjoy the success even more.

Why do you think that you often hear stories of lottery winners that have blown millions in a few short years? It’s because they did not have to work for it. There was no sweat involved so it meant that the millions held no value, which is why they did not spend their money wisely.

The path of our dreams is often harder. I know because you have put your whole heart into it, so there is no falling back on that old excuse that you never wanted it.

Remember, the path to what we want is harder, but sweeter in the end.

Paulo Coelho says in The Alchemist "The secret to life is to fall seven times and get up eight."

Here are my Top Ten Ways to get back on the horse and try again after falling off:

1. Don’t criticize yourself, instead assess what went wrong, and be objective

2. Write down again what your goal is. It’s important not to allow failure to make you lose sight of your goals

3. Describe in words how it will taste, feel, and smell to be living your dream. Include what you will be seeing

4. Phone your nearest and dearest friend and tell them that you need to go out for a night on the tiles. Trust me, sitting indoors and feeling like shit won’t help

5. Write a To Do list. In order to take action, you need to know what action to take

6. Do something different. When I have had a bad day, I like to wake up the next day at the crack of dawn when it’s quiet and calmly affirm to myself that everything is going to work out today!

7. Check all the details. The devil is in the details. Is there any detail of the plan that needs to be amended?

8. Educate yourself. Go down to the bookstore and get a book on your goal. It will help you with inspiration

9. Google is your friend. Sometimes we fail because we haven’t done enough research. Surf the net on your topic and get some tips and inspirations

10. Take a break. It’s good to get right back on the horse but sometimes in order to do better, you need fresh eyes. Take a break for a day and then come back refreshed. It will make all the difference.

in the kingdom of love there is no competition

If you send out goodness from yourself, or if you share that which is happy or good within you, it will all come back to you multiplied ten thousand times. In the kingdom of love there is no competition; there is no possessiveness or control. The more love you give away, the more love you will have.

Fight Fire With Love by Dyamond Robinson-Patlyek

Guest Post by Dyamond Robinson-Patlyek for the Kind Kindred series.

Fight Fire With Love

I haven't always been the person I am now. I use to be a very ugly person. I don’t have a bright past.

I used to abuse my husband. You did not read that wrong. I said I abused my husband. I know I'm a woman, but it happens, and I was one of those people. It's definitely something I'm not proud of, and I truly wish I could go back and fix all the damage I've done. But I can't. All I can do now is fix myself, forgive myself and move forward.

Something in me would just... snap. We would have a heavy argument or sometimes the argument wasn’t that bad at all. I would reach a point where I would crack and then I would swing, or scratch... pull out wads of hair. Sometimes I wouldn't remember what I did. I was really stressed out; I felt trapped and didn't know what other option there was at the moment.

My husband loves me. Duh right? He's still here obviously he loves me. That's not what I’m getting at here. I'm a tiny woman. I probably didn't damage him that much physically, maybe a couple of cuts and bruises- I mostly damaged him emotionally. When I would loose my head he would first pin me down; never would he hit back. And after he pinned me down... he would hold me. I'd scream and thrash and he would hold me. Not like in a constricting way but in a loving way. He fought fire with love.

I've never had that before. I had a rough childhood. My mom... wasn't as loving as she should have been but I forgive her for that. Along with that she was also very violent towards her significant others as well. That's what I was exposed to. I never knew how it felt to be met with love instead of hostility.

That is a big big reason why I was able to start my transformation. He changed my life. And all he did was hold me.

I understand that everyone may not have the strength to handle situations as my husband did. And that's okay. Everyone makes a change in his or her own way.

There are two points I really want to stress:

1. Fight fire with love. It really can change someone's life.

2. Give people a chance. Not everyone is bad. Sometimes a person on the wrong path just needs someone to show them the way. People CAN change. I know from experience.

I am no longer the person that lashed out so violently when angered. Now I am the person urging my husband and others to have a little more compassion for the people around them. This is all because someone decided to love me the right way.

Loving someone the right way for you may not be taking beatings. I don’t think anyone should take a beating. It may be just saying I love you no matter how harmful the other’s words may be. It may be smiling at someone who is not too fond of you. Apologizing even though you weren't the one who did the wrongdoing.

Find your own way to love the right way. The world needs you to do this. People like me need you to do this.

***I am away on a 10-day meditation retreat. I’m not ignoring your lovely feedback I promise! I just don’t have Internet access at all at the moment. I will be back on the 28th. So much love to all of you!

Self-love Warriors

A four-week revolution in fierce self-love and care:
for the body & mind, heart & soul

As many of you know, Jenn of Roots of She helped create Kind Over Matter, she kept it alive with me in its infancy, she is one of my dear-dear friends & today is her first launch! I am rooting so hard for her!

What did she send out into the universe today?

A fabulous course & book showing you ways to be gentle with yourself, to nurture the gorgeous light inside of you, to let it flow out into the world & spread it to those around you.

She asked me if I would create the graphics for both the course & the book, it was the first big design project I had taken on besides doing work for myself & KOM. I had sooo much fun creating them! Thank you for believing in & trusting me, Jenn!

The heart of the course is designed to show you ways to incorporate acts of self-love into your day-to-day. It looks amazing! Online & self-paced, with Jenn & 4 other INCREDIBLE guides to help you introduce a deeper practice of self-love into your life.

Along with the course, there is an eBook & I'm honored to be one of the contributors, together with so many others, we share our practices, stories & realizations. It's oh-so-beautiful!

Become a Self-love Warrior
A playbook of practices, prompts & prose

I dove deep into the book this weekend & read it in one sitting. Powerful, honest, raw & valuable, something I will be returning to again & again when I need to remind myself that I need to nurture myself in order to nurture others.

You can purchase the course or book separately from each other or you can get in on all the love (at a sweet discount!) here!

I hope you all will hop on over & show Jenn some love today!

Peace & Love to you, skies full,
