Feel Good Blog of the Day: Welcome to the Joy Rebellion
hey, did you all know that july 1 is the first unofficial official joy rebel day?
no? really? neither did i until about an hour ago, when i came upon brandi's blog -- it's so fun, lots of really neat projects, cool giveaways and lovely photographs. one ongoing project that looks like so much fun is mission monday, whose goal is to help each of us get back to that playful side of ourselves. how cool is that?
but back to the new holiday: how do you celebrate joy rebel day? according to brandi, do things that make you feel joyful. what could be easier?
waaaait a second, what's a joy rebel anyway? well, in brandi's words:
"to me, being a joy rebel is not about being happy all the time, though happiness is a component of joy. Being a joy rebel means being your authentic self and making those life affirming choices that bring more joy into your life. It's also about having fun and being silly. It also means honoring all emotions. Having a bad day and making the choice to pound on a pillow and then take a bath if that's what you really need is about joy. It may not feel like it but I've realized that I can't fully feel joy if I don't fully feel the rest of it. But then, as a joy rebel, you get to decide what that means for you too."

Sarah from Handmade Homeschool has been making card drops! She kindly e-mailed me last week & handed me the grandest idea! She said she often passes gardens while she jogs & wants to let the gardeners know how much she enjoys their work but they're never in their yard, so... these cards were born! Thank you so much Sarah for the idea & for spreading the love! I hope you enjoy these!
One of the older ladies that lives in our little apartment building has a cute flower bed, which is where I left the card below this morning! She also tends to the many potted flowers that adorn our porch, she teams up with another lady & every summer they make our deck soooooo beautiful! Since I have a non-green thumb I enjoy what they do so much. (I'm pretty certain she already discovered the card while I was typing up this post!)

i love being barefoot, listening to the wind up in the trees, getting my hands dirty. i love lazy mornings with the boy, weekend naps with the kitten, walking into the grocery store. i love laughing with my brother, randomly dancing, getting curled up under blankets.

Ever since Erin posted about these amazing freestanding house plant props from FOOL I haven't been able to get them out of my head. Like her & like I told her, plants just dislike me, they don't want to live with me. Period. I grew & nourished a baby but plants... forget it. My thumb is so far from green, I've had WHOLE gardens fail on me, like, I planted a whole vegetable garden, the works & reaped none of the harvest because... F.A.I.L.
With my better half being laid-off recently we're on a tight budget, so I thought I'd better just try my hand at making my own paper plant, not nearly as big & lovely as Chelsea’s but hey, one is sitting in my kitchen window & it makes me smile so I'd thought I'd share it with all you.

Sometimes I feel like life is going way too fast and I just can't keep up. Sometimes I feel like I have made so many mistakes in my past that I don't think i can ever make up for them. Sometimes I feel like I will never get to where I want to be. Sometimes this happens all at once.
Clearly I need to be reminded of this constantly...unfortunately it just isn't second nature for me yet. So I created this little illustration to keep my mind in check.
